Centerville High School assistant coach and Dannco Inventory Control Specialist Stan Maddy received the Outstanding Assistant Coach of the Year award from the Iowa Football Coaches’ Association on November 17 during halftime of the state 3A Championship Game. Coach Maddy just finished his twenty-sixth year of coaching football at CHS. He has also spent time as a junior high wrestling coach, assistant high school girls track coach and head girls basketball coach for one season.
Stan was one of two 3A level assistant coaches rewarded over the weekend for their contributions to their teams. He was nominated by Centerville head coach Jim Knott and a panel of fellow high school football coaches went through the nominations and awarded him. Stan has received several other awards for coaching, in 1995 he was nominated for Junior High Wrestling Coach of the Year by the Iowa Wrestling Coaches’ and Officials’ Association, won the Premier High School Coaches’ Award in 2000 from the Iowa High School Athletic Association, and locally was honored with a Youth Mentor Award from the Appanoose County Commonwealth Foundation.
Since retiring after thirty-five years of teaching art in the Centerville school district, Stan has worked here at Dannco for two years, and is currently president of the Centerville Booster Club.
