Keokuk High School won its first 3A Iowa State Football Title this season thanks to the arm of Quarterback James Vandenberg and a terrific championship game from a ballhawking defense. Vandenberg, who has state records for yards passing and touchdowns both in one season and over a career, threw for 200 plus in the championship game and three touchdowns in the 42-7 effort. The strong play of their defense grabbed headlines as the team forced seven turnovers that set up five of the team's six touchdowns. The first two possessions of Heelan High School were ended by James Hurt interceptions which led to touchdowns and an early 14 point lead. The team never looked back, with credit given to a fantastic team performance.
Congratulations Keokuk and all high school football teams ending successful seasons.
